Job Fairs Now is a hometown, homegrown event company founded in Midland, Texas, in 2010 by Kim and Cal delaPena. A portion of the business was purchased in 2023 by a national company. Following the expiration of the non-compete agreement, Kim and Cal proudly brought Job Fairs Now back under their leadership—refocused on serving West Texas and surrounding communities with the same heart, integrity, and hands-on support that built its original reputation.
What began as a small local effort to connect job seekers with employers quickly grew into a trusted name in recruiting events across the U.S. Over 15 years, Job Fairs Now has produced hundreds of job fairs for industries including oil and gas, healthcare, skilled trades, government, and retail.
Kim delaPena built Job Fairs Now from the ground up—creating the first large-scale job fairs in Midland when few resources existed locally. Her career began in employment marketing at Hearst Newspapers, where she launched their first Outside Employment Department. Kim helped train other large media groups such as the Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News, and other major metro newspapers on how to build and manage recruitment event strategies. She brings over 25 years of experience in recruiting, event production, media strategy, and nonprofit leadership. Today, she also serves as the founder and Executive Director of Prosperity Employment Outreach, a Midland-based nonprofit that helps individuals overcome employment barriers through mentoring, resume support, digital skills training, and job advocacy.
Cal delaPena is a degreed graphic artist with extensive experience in media management, operations, and print production. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Cal has managed large print shops and graphics departments within news organizations, overseeing everything from digital layout to client relations. His attention to detail, calm leadership, and logistical expertise make him a critical part of every Job Fairs Now event. Cal now works in the nonprofit world as an Executive Director and leads on-site coordination and client support for Job Fairs Now. He helped design and launch the very first Hearst job fairs alongside his future wife, Kim.
Together, Kim and Cal have been partners in business and life for nearly 20 years, married for 15, and have raised a kinship/guardianship/foster/adoption family while running this company. They’ve instilled values of entrepreneurship, community involvement, and interpersonal skills in their children—and have made giving back a cornerstone of their work. A portion of proceeds from Job Fairs Now events help fund Prosperity Employment Outreach and its programs across West Texas.
Whether helping employers hire top talent or helping individuals find meaningful work, Job Fairs Now remains committed to one mission: connecting people to opportunity—with heart, purpose, and a deep commitment to community.
